The hostages were doomed

Publication time: 24 June 2005, 16:36

The other day I have received some letters-responses to the article "Ours kill ours" , published earlier on the site of the agency "Caucasus-center".

From all letters, my interest was attracted by Inna Smith's critical response from Britain , in which our dear reader returns us to the question about participation of the Russian special services in the Beslan events. I shall remind that this question was actively discussed by some people some time ago in different Chechen editions.

Madam Smith thinks that there is a discrepancy in the article "Ours kill ours" and she asks to answer the questions, which have already become sacral: why did the saboteurs decided to carry out the operation in Beslan, knowing what was the result of the similar operation in the "Northeast"; and why did Basaev incur the responsibility for this operation.

The desire of reader Smith is quite understandable. For example, I also have a desire to find out, why Russians not once, not twice, and not thrice, but constantly, for six years, carry out terrorist retaliatory operations against peace citizens of the ChRI including against Chechen children, though they perfectly know, that their terrorism only strengthens the resistance of Chechens.

The matter is that all these "whys" are born because, that Smith looks at things from the Russian bell tower, and Ichkeriyskiy from the Chechen minaret, and such a disposition is quite natural, because we are representatives of two belligerent parties.

We can not notice our own mistakes and at the same time specify the mistakes of the enemy, and, I shall repeat, it is quite natural. I consider being unnatural, when such questions are asked by the people from our side of barricades.

For example, the applications about readiness to rescue hostages of the enemy are unclear and unpleasant for me, as if in the Chechen Republic everything is all right, and Chechen children play in a sandbox. In my opinion, such applications are harmful and play in the hand of our opponents.

It is necessary to name things their proper names: the tragedies like the “Northeast” and Beslan, special actions like the spot-check to Ingushetia, diversions like Moscow ones, etc. will proceed, until the genocide war against the Chechen people proceeds, until the Chechen children are lost under bombardments and during retaliatory operations. It is the logic of the war, which is imposed to Chechens.

As far as the participation of the Russian special services in the events in Beslan is concerned, it is a standard trick of the Russian special services, a primitive practice of security officers, which has old past, and is applied with the purpose of discredit of the opponent.

Remember, even before the storm there was a misinformation, that the saboteurs ostensibly put forward the requirement to release their comrades from the Vladikavkaz prison. This canard was let out by old cop Aslahanov, who disappeared somewhere, after he had informed, that, ostensibly, he had time to call the saboteurs, and Putin for the sake of release of the hostages, was ready to fulfill this requirement.

"We tried to agree for what quantity of children, they were going to exchange them", - Putin's phone said then.

Then there were statements, that there were prisoners released from prisons in the group of the saboteurs. But searches of those, who had released them, gave no result, and this theme was hushed up; actually, the main thing was already done: people believed that there were criminals in the school, and their requirements no concreteness. That's it.

Now I shall answer the question, why Basaev incurred the responsibility. Because Basaev is always responsible for his words. He does, what he says, and he says what he does. He does not hide behind backs of others and operates openly. Because Basaev is able to admit his mistakes.

Basaev's mistake was that he counted upon the Caucasian mentality of the Beslan inhabitants. Firstly the Beslan men were ready to prevent the storm, and to stand with an alive ring around of the school. In this case, it would be necessary to agree to negotiate and to fulfill the requirements about the withdrawal of the armies, or, shooting everybody successively, to reach the school.

Russians quickly realized the danger of such a development of the situation, and prevented them to be organized. Everyone remembers the statements of some inhabitants of Beslan armed with revolvers and machine guns that they would shoot at Russians, if those tried to storm the school. Such volunteers were quickly noticed, and pushed aside from the school, having surrounded it.

By and large for all these days of the siege, Russians were doing nothing else, but cleaning the territory from the armed men, and detained them under the pretext of check on participation in the group of the saboteurs.

Russians hurried up, being afraid of a splash of national indignation. It was impossible to hesitate. And they decided to liquidate the hostages with application of the flame throwers, armored techniques and helicopters. They simply would not be able to fulfill the order from the Kremlin with other means.

So, the hostages were doomed. They were doomed by Puitn's regime, instead of by a group of Shahids, who came to Beslan only five years later after the daily fatal waves, washing the tormented Chechen Republic with bloody foam from the territory of the Northern Ossetia .
