Ukrainian Security Service involved in illegal people trafficking

Publication time: 27 June 2006, 12:25

Slovak border guards discovered an illegal human trafficking channel from Ukraine, which was apparently supported or even managed by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) officers, Obkom reports. Over 600 illegal migrants were captured recently by the Slovaks and handed back to the Ukraine. The investigation has lead to opening of four criminal cases with main figurants - SBU officers. The arranged convoys of the immigrants and dealt with possible problems with the other security services.

They also obviously had some connections in the higher levels in the SBU. As AIA reported, recently the delegation of the Security Service of Ukraine lead by its Chairman Igor Drizhchany came to the Slovak republic. As the SBU press service announced, the visit was arranged for signing of agreement between the two governments on mutual protection of confidential information. However, Ukrainian sources claim that Drizhchany arrived in Bratislava to hush the scandal.
