Shocking details on rape, killing of Iraqi civilians

The U.S. Army has launched recently a military investigation into the case involving the rape of Abeer Qasim Hamza, a 15-year-old Iraqi girl and the killing of her family by U.S. invading troops in the south-central Iraqi city of Mahmudiyah on March 11.

The Washington Post released a report on Monday removing the veil over more shocking details into the incident, which was described by The Association of Muslim scholars, a reputable organisation established after the toppling of the former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, as showing "the truth of the ugly American face."

According to The Post report, Abber had previously told her mother that the occupying soldiers had made advances on her each day as she passed through at a nearby checkpoint.

The mother decided that the girl sleep with other women in the neighborhood, to ensure her protection.

The Post quoted Omar Janabi, who said he was a neighbor, as saying that he was informed by the mother on March 10 that Abeer had complained repeatedly about advances made toward her by the American troops.

On March 11, the occupation soldiers raided the house, grabbed the girl, raped her and burned her body. Then they shot dead the rest of the family members, including a child.

Before the investigation, the U.S. soldiers attempted to throw the blame on Sunni Muslim rebels. But two U.S. military men confessed that soldiers of the unit were responsible for the horrific crime.

The Association of Muslim Scholars, (AMS), also known as the Muslim Scholars Association, or Association of Muslim Clerics, condemned "this ugly crime and declares to the whole world that this mean behavior and terrible violations committed by the invaders show the truth of the ugly American face and also shows that their claims of calling for humanity and liberation are not true," the organisation said in a statement issued earlier this week.

"We put the world and all humanitarian organizations as witnesses to this ugly crime and call them to face the American recklessness that went way too far."
