Operation of secret services continues in the south of Kyrgyzstan

An antiterrorist operation carried out by the secret services of the country is continuing in the south of Kyrgyzstan, online agency Ferghana.ru reports. Last week five persons have been arrested, including one woman, according to the secret services. The news agency says, cartridges to AKM automatic machine-gun and set of leaflets and editions of extremist character were found in the houses of the arrested persons. However, "dissatisfied party" has been rejecting all criminal charges.

A member of the Hizb ut-Tahrir party from Ajubhan in Osh area told Ferghana.ru that the secret services had been specially implanting the "proofs" and then arresting usual believers. Mostly ethnic Uzbeks were detained during special operations recently, many of them are members of Hizb ut-Tahrir, the party forbidden in Kyrgyzstan. Mayor of the city of Karasu, Mahmudzhan Rakhimov, told Ferghana.ru that the antiterrorist operations had been carried out by the regional directorates of secret services supported by the spetsnaz units. The city mayor wondered whether there was a necessity of carrying out such large-scale antiterrorist operations as the city inhabitants every week were helding meetings of protest. Participants of the meetings assume that probably President of Kyrgyzstan, Kurmanbek Bakiev, is not informed on these special actions, Ferghana.ru notes. At the same time in opinion of some people these antiterrorist operations «are specially directed against ethnic Uzbeks and have a definite purpose: to achieve mass discontent of Uzbeks and to destabilize a situation in the south of republic», the agency writes.

Members of the Kyrgyz secret services sharply reject similar allegations. According to a SNB employee, quoted by Ferghana.ru, secret services had always been under pressure of the previous country leaders, and during the period of inactivity they had collected a lot of information that deserved to be checked and due measures to be undertaken.
