Exclusive. Are Western Correspondents in Moscow Afraid of the FSB?

Publication time: 30 August 2006, 11:12

"About 50 former militants surrendered and handed over their weapons Tuesday in a ceremony led by Chechnya's powerful prime minister, who said rebel numbers are dwindling in the war-ravaged region", The Associated Press reports from the Russian town of Rostov-on-Don cting Russian media.

"Fifty men who fought Russian rule in Chechnya said on Tuesday they were downing their weapons under an amnesty and urged remaining fighters to halt their 12-year separatist insurgency...The 50 men were presented in Gudermes, Chechnya's second largest town", Reuters reports from Gudermes.

It is really a pity that the Associated Press and Reuters report Russian propaganda and lies instead of news, calling  the soldiers of the Chechen Republic of Ickkeria's Armed Forces "militants" as the Russian invaders do.  If Western correspondents in Russia were serious in their job and eager to provide unbiased information, then they would certainly send by e-mail an inquiry to the Kavkaz Center news agency or at least wait for our side oft he story appearing on our website before writing their one-sided stories based on lies by Russian terrorists and their proxies.

Well, they never  do that.

One of the tasks of the Kavkaz Center English-language service is to provide truthful information to the editorial stuff of Western media in Western capitals hoping that they supplement the reports of  Moscow correspondents with information from the Chechen side.

Well, they never do that.

The AP and Reuters stories about 50 Mujahideen "surrending" to Russian invaders and proxies is absolutely false. Just look at the facts.

There was not a single fighting Mujahid, not even a single private, presented by Russians and proxies to journalists on Tuesday. Among purported "amirs" (commanders), the FSB (Russian secret police)  presented:  Ali Suleimanov, purported commander of an unknown "battalion Ichkeria"; Ahmed Mutalipov, purported Staropromaslovsky district deputy chief of the Sharia Ichkerian Security Ministry; an anonymous "amir" of Nadterechny district; Arbi Khabaev, purported criminal police department chief in the Ichkerian Interior Ministry;  and Ruslan Israpilov, purported chief of militia of Shelkovo district.

The names of Ali Suleimanov and of "anonymous amir" are absolutely unknown to the Chechen side. It was only found out that Ali Suleimanov spent the whole time of the Russian-Chechen War in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Mutalipov was dismissed from his post at the beginning of the Second Russian-Chechen War in 1999 and went to Ingushetia. The Chechen Military Command heard nothing from him since then.

The name of Arbi Khabaev was heard at the time of Johar Dudaev. Since then, the Chechen Mujhideen heard nothing from or about him.

Another "surrended militant" was presented by Russian terrorists from the FSB as purported "security chief in the Ichkerian Headquarters". Well, maybe. But it means that he was not a "militant" and took no part in any fightings and did not have anything to do neither with Shamil Basaev, nor with Doku Umarov.

No other "amirs" or "commanders" were presented to journalists by the FSB on Thuesday.

And now let us look at the figures of "surrended militants" because Western correspondents in Moscow  never do it for their readers.

Up till now, the Russian propaganda claimed that altogether "130 Mujhideen surrended". But before their "surrender" public relations campaign, the Russians alleged that only 70 Mujahideen fight against them! After "surrenders",  they now claim that about 60 Mujahideen including 20 Arab volunteers are still fighting. How is it possible?

The answer is that the "surrenders" are nothing but a usual propaganda campaign of Russian terrorists and liars. And it is really a pity that Western media tell nothing in this regard.

The situation with Western correspodents in Moscow is really  strange. They NEVER  report Mujahideen attacks not cited by the Russian media and NEVER give figures of Russian casualties supplied by the Kavkaz Center citing the Chechen Military Command. But their colleagues in Afghanistan, for instance, sometimes do and do publish figures of US and UK losses supplied by  Taliban speakers while the US and the UK armies wage war against the Islamic State of Afghanistan-Taliban. And theChechen Mujahideen fight against the Russian invaders only. What is wrong with unbiased coverage of the Russian-Chechen War in Western Media?  Are Western correspondents in Moscow afraid of the FSB (former KGB)?
