Georgian police have seized the house of Zakhar Kalashov, a Georgian -born Russian crime boss, who was arrested in Dubai in May under the request of Spain's police. He was later extradited to Spain.
Kalashov was arrested on May 9, a holiday in Russia to celebtate the Russian occupation of Eastern Europe, Ukraine,Caucasus and other countries, as he left a party apparently attended by other Eastern European mafia bosses, according to Spanish media reports.
Spanish reports described Kalashov as one of the top leaders of Russian and related mafias in the world. Several international arrest warrants have been issued for the man linked to several killings and drug trafficking.
Kalashov was suspected of heading a criminal organization called Vor V Zakone. He is believed to have directed a criminal network dismantled a year ago in eastern and southern Spain, where more than 20 Russians and Georgians were arrested.
The criminals had established a network of bars and restaurant chains on Spain's Mediterranean coast, and also trafficked luxury cars to launder money proceeding from criminal activities in the former Soviet Union.
Police seized property worth tens of millions of euros, freezing at least 800 bank accounts.
On 12 September, police summoned and questioned the former governor of Tsqneti district Giorgi Odzeli regarding the house of Zakhar Kalashov.
