In an unsigned statement sent to reporters on Tuesday, the Mujahideen leader of the Jamaat of Karachayevo-Cherkessiya accepted responsibility for the execution of a munafiq "imam" in the Caucasian town of Kislovodsk and said similar attacks will persist.
"There is a list of traitors who under the guise of Islam commit dirty crimes and hamper the victory of true Islam, these are people who sold out and they are the ones we target," the leader, who did not give his name, said, the AP reports.
Earlier, Russian invaders said unidentified assailants had shot and killed late Monday a senior puppet Muslim official in the Russian-occupied Caucasian Muslin state of Nogai Orda (Russian name, Stavropol territory).
Abubakir Kudzhiyev, an munafiq "imam" at a mosque in the city of Kislovodsk, was gunned down Monday night as he was entering his apartment building.
Late Monday, unidentified assailants also attacked an occupation police patrol, wounding at least one Russian kafir, Russian media reports.
