Russian Reporter In Prague Turned Out To Be FSB Spy

Publication time: 19 October 2006, 12:19

According to a report published by the Czech popular daily  Mlada fronta Dnes (MfD), a reporter of the Russian government RIA Novosti agency, a certain Leonid Sviridov, turned out to be a FSB spy. The Russian-speaking criminal collaborated with the Russian intelligence service and that is the reason why the Czech Foreign Ministry refused to extend his accreditation, the MfD confirmed.

"I do not think that we have made a mistake," MfD editor-in-chief Robert Casensky told the Czech news agrncy CTK.

MfD connected the case with the decision of the Russian Foreign Ministry not to extend the accreditation of public Czech Television (CT) reporter Jan Molacek in Moscow.

The Czech daily received the information that Sviridov's work was at variance with the status of journalist from a well-informed diplomatic source.

The Russian spy Sviridov worked in the Czech Republic from 1997. Three years ago he moved to Warsaw from where he also monitored Czech developments, the CNK said.
