Residents read a banner posted on a wall by the Mujahideen Shura Council in Ramadi. The city was joining an Islamic state comprising Iraq's mostly Sunni Arab provinces. The banner reads, 'It's our pleasure to announce good news of the Iraqi Islamic State'.
According to Western media reports, the Iraqis took to the streets of Ramadi on Wednesday to celebrate the proclamation of the Islamic State of Iraq announced by the Mutayibeen Alliance. The Islamic State of Iraq includes Sunni areas of Baghdad, and the provinces of Anbar, Diyala, Kirkuk, Salah-ad-Deen, Nineveh and parts of Babil and Wasit.
Eyewitnesses in Ramadi, the capital of western Anbar province said that Mujahideen marched through the city as mosque loudspeakers broadcast the statement that announced the Islamic State.
A Mujahideen field commander identified as Abu Harith told Reuters by phone "God willing we will set the Law of Sharia here and we will fight the Americans. We have announced the Islamic State. Ramadi is part of it. Our state will comprise all the Sunni provinces of Iraq headed by Amir Abu Omar al-Baghdadi."
The Mutayibeen Alliance was established to unify Muahideen forces in their battle against US imperialist occupation troops and to establish the Islamic State to protect the Muslim religion and the people of Iraq, to prevent strife so that the blood and sacrifices of the martyrs were not lost.
In Anbar, which makes up a third of Iraq's territory and is the Sunni heartland, another Mujahid said the Sunni Islamic State was a response to a decision last week by the Iraq's Shia controlled puppet "parliament" to pass a "law" that allows provinces to form federal regions. He said the puppets' "law" weakened the Sunnis.
The Shia want to create a region in the oil-rich Shia heartland in the south while the Sunnis believe this will lead to the break-up of Iraq. "We need to secure the rights of the Sunnis based on God's Sharia. Who will dare to oppose God's Sharia?" Abu Harith said. Harith also said Sunni Arabs were being marginalized. "We are all Iraqis and we will fight for the rights of the Sunnis. We want to bring justice back to its people."
Mujahideen by the dozens drove and marched down the main street of Ramadi displaying the Black Flag of Islam while well-wishers joined in the festivities. Interestingly the US military stated that they were not aware of the event and we not present during the celebration. Locals were on hand however and the residents readily embraced the Islamic State.
