Plenty of Americans Dead in Destroyed US Checkpoint in Iraq

Publication time: 22 October 2006, 21:45

On Saturday afternoon, October 21, 2006, an Iraqi  fida'i fighter had driven an explosives-laden truck into a US checkpoint in the al-Mal‘ab area of eastern ar-Ramadi and obliterated it completely, the Al Basrah reported.

Eyewitnesses said that the Mujahideen attacker drove a large Hino truck into the middle of the checkpoint, which was crowded with American soldiers.  Witnesses said that the checkpoint was totally destroyed and all inside were killed. Several US military vehicles were also wrecked in the attack.  No civilians were killed in the blast other than the fida'i car bomber.

On Saturday afternoon, a bomb exploded by a US minesweeper vehicle in ar-Raamdi, about 110km west of Baghdad. The US occupation troops were using a US minesweeper vehicle to try to clear an area of explosives in the ad-Dubbat neighborhood in central ar-Ramadi when a bomb went off by the vehicle. Mujahideen followed that up by firing a rocket-propelled grenade at the minesweeper, totally destroying it.

A bomb exploded by a US foot patrol in the ash-Shuhada' neighborhood of al-Fallujah, about 60km west of Baghdad, on Saturday morning. Three US troops were killed in the blast and four more wounded, one of those having had his leg blown off and another seriously injured in the lower abdomen.  A helicopter was brought in to evacuate them.
