SVR Poisons Expert Writes To Kavkaz Center Denying Report By Canada Free Press

Publication time: 3 December 2006, 18:13

The Kavkaz Center English Service received a letter from Dr Alexander Kouzminov denying a report from the Canadian Free Press titled "Exclusive: Alexander Litvinenko.Death of a spy. By Gordon Thomas"

The CFP report  was partly reproduced on our Web site in an article on October 26, 2006.

Mr Kouzminov writes to the Kavkaz Center English Service:

"(1) On your web-site the following text is placed (I quote you): "A former director of Department S, Alexander Kouzminov, said: "The killing could only have been carried out by operatives of Department S secretly deployed in the West. They have assumed names and well-prepared cover stories and often masquerade as citizens of Western countries". "He claimed the new poison could have entered Britain through "the Volna Channel. This highly secret route, often using diplomatic channels, had been set up in Putin's KGB days to transport biological materials to a country where they were to be used".

My commentary:

a) I have never been a Director of Directorate S.

b) I have never commented on the Litvinenko's killing in any newspapers / mass media...

c) I would appreciate if you correct your text and clarify (in your corrected text) that I did not make any comments about Mr Litvinenko's death and the circumstances surrounding it. I do not want to speculate on this case.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Alexander Kouzminov
