Somalia: Puppet troops stunned

Last update: 20 December 2006, 16:53
Publication time: 20 December 2006, 13:50

Deynuunaay military camp captured as islamic courts (south) Push towards Baidoa, in a battle that started before dawn, in a night raid the Islamic Courts overwhelmed the ethiopian troops in their trenches sending them fleeing to Baidoa 9 miles away, Manaas military camp is also on the verge of capture since heavy battle is being reported.

Bardheere is also on the fall as the roads east and south of the city is filled with the Islamic Court's battle wagons.

Islamic courts deadline passed Tuesday.

Meanwhile earlier reports coming in from Dinsoor indicate that a large force of the Islamic Courts left the city heading towards the major town of Baardheere.

Baardheere in the Gedo region is home to the defeated forces of the puppet "defence minister" Barre Hiraale, who lost the port city of Kismaayo early in the month of Ramadan, and also in the disastrous battle near the Juba town of Buale where they almost lost 40 battle wagons and many dead.

Since those defeats the puppet "defence minister" lost popularity in the region where, there are many supporters of the Sharia courts.

The region remains the only place in south of Somalia where the Islamic courts have not yet reached. The region is also famous for the town of Luuq near the Ethiopian border where in the early 90s Islamic Al-Itihaad led by Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys was defeated by the Ethiopian armed forces in a major battle.

Meanwhile the Islamic Courts reported a delay in the attacks on occupation forces in Baidoa citing occupation force's proposal for talks and a possibility that the puppet "government" would soon move from Baidoa to the northern town of Galkaio in the puppet Puntland region.
