”Kavkaz-Center”: Ethiopian troops withdraw from Mogadishu

Publication time: 23 January 2007, 18:19

About 2000 Ethiopian troops with tanks and trucks started leaving the Somali capital Mogadishu this morning, Ethiopian General Hagoss said about fifty military trucks carrying Ethiopian soldiers supported by tanks and armored vehicles were on their way of getting out of Somalia. He affirmed that all Ethiopian troops would leave in a matter of weeks.

In most of the regions outside the capital Ethiopian, troops left early in the weekend leaving the towns and villages under the control of clan elders, some reports state that Islamic courts soldiers came back from the wooded country sides to there villages after the occupations left, some to a heroes welcome.

Now only few areas are controlled by the "government" and small occupation troops in Mogadishu, the airport, the sea port, villa Somalia and strategic military camp, most of the city are being controlled by the clan leaders.

In Mogadishu clans told KC reporter that some of the heads of the Islamic courts are still in Mogadishu in the clan based neighborhoods under protection from clans and Islamist supporters the government are week to arrest or control any districts in Mogadishu which is still swarmed by armed clans, gangs and mojaheds, many government "ministers" are confirmed to have barricaded them self in their house close to the presidential palace fearing reprisals from the Mogadishu residents.

Meanwhile in the capital Nairobi, clan elders, the Americans and the Kenyan government are urging sheikh Shariif not to start another civil war with the government now that the demands for the Ethiopian invaders to withdraw have been met.

EU representatives who are closely sympathetic to Islamic courts withheld around 19 million euros of aid to the puppet Somali "government" on condition that they make peace with the Islamic courts and the speaker of the parliament with his Islamic loyalist parliamentarians who are currently in Djeabuti.

About 400,000 Somalis died in the Somali clan based civil war since 1991 and clan leaders are begging the Islamic courts not to star another civil war based on religion since the Somali people were "thirsty" for some sort of a recognised "government" , Islamic forces in Mogadishu vowed to blow up all the individuals who betrayed the country, but many Muslims don't want to start any major clashes that would kill many civilians and also Somali soldiers.
