Three American troops have been killed and nine wounded in northern Iraq

Three more American troops have been killed and nine wounded in northern Iraq, officials reported on Thursday. "Two soldiers killed in explosions near their vehicles in separate attacks. Another soldier also killed by small arms fire," officials said. "Nine soldiers were wounded," they added. The deaths brought to 3,203 American military's losses in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion, according to an AFP count based on Pentagon figures, but unofficial sources across Iraq put the figure at much higher. Political observers believe that the presence of foreign occupying forces remains behind insecurity in the oil-rich country.
