Skirmishes continue

Publication time: 14 April 2007, 19:02

Small but heavy fighting took place in the North of Mogadishu between fighters loyal to the Islamic courts and the puppet government resulting in the deaths of soldiers and civilians.

The warring sides fought and still face off each other in the area between Ramadan and Kaah hotels in north of the city. Some reports say that the stiff local fighters advanced towards the positions of the government troops.

At least six civilians have been killed and 30 others were wounded in the last two days fighting.

Fighters in the insurgency in the north of Mogadishu are loyal to business man Omar Adaani who was the prime financer of the Islamic courts.

Ethiopian troops did not intervene to stop the fighting which resulted in government troops being routed from the main junction of Fagah and Jungale neighborhoods.

Meanwhile in Eritrea, Sheikh Shariif and other anti ethiopians former government officials met with Eritrea's president who vowed to support Somalis in wining their freedom from the Ethiopian forces
