At least ten civilians died and more than 20 were wounded in last night's artillery battles, (pictures) according to hospital sources.
The situation in the capital was calm on Wednesday morning. The sounds of small fire could infrequently be heard.
The Ethiopian troops at Villa Somalia (The presidential palace) were targeting at Florence Junction in Hamar Bille neighborhood and Mogadishu football Stadium in Yaqshid neighborhood, north of the capital, areas the government believes to be the stronghold for the Hawiye clan militia and the insurgents.
Hawiye clan leaders who were supposed to have a peace deal with the Ethiopian troops indicated that the Ethiopians were stubborn to evacuate their military troops and trucks from the areas they seized during the four day deadly battles that happened in Mogadishu from 29 March to 1 April.
"Tuesday night's fighting exceeded in its intensity the recent fighting in Mogadishu," said Mohamed Jumale, a resident of the southern neighborhood of Ali Kamin.
"I saw three bodies of the same family lying in a partly destroyed home after a missile crashed into their home," said Hassan Abdi Saleh. "Three others sustained light injuries."
Decisive battles are expected between the Ethiopian backed Somali "government" troops and insurgents in the coming days.
