Government looses Kismayo, fighting continues in Mogadishu

Tribal Forces loyal to former Kismayo warlord took over the port city of Kismayo following a deadly battle between, the Somai "government" security forces in the Jubba regions.

 

Fighting began at 9am Monday when hundreds of tribal forces dressed in government army clothes attacked their fellow soldiers from the Puntland regions and government installations in the city, after the new head of administration of the city also from the Puntland region fled the city with his entire army from the puntland, tribal forces changed their clothes and started patrolling the city, at least 10 bodies were seen in the headquarters of the city administration.

 

The  tribes in the Jubba regions were angry by the fact that their region was being administered and controlled by the president's tribe from the Puntland north of the country since the Islamic courts withdrew from the city.

 

Meanwhile in Mogadishu a deadly battle is ensuing, as heavy shelling is destroying most of the city, shelling by both sides are leveling entire building and leaving many people dead.

 

At least five civilians were killed and more than 10 were wounded in Shibis and Suq Ba'ad neighborhoods in north of the capital early Monday morning.

 

According to witnesses, the victims were fleeing the areas when they were hit by stray bullets.

 

At least 200 people are reported to have been killed in 5 days of fighting.
