In occupied Kashmir, the father of an illegally arrested Kashmiri artisan in Bangalore has demanded his immediate and unconditional release.
The artisan, Bilal Ahmad Kota of Sadrabal, Srinagar was arrested by Indian agents from his residence at Bangalore on December 28, 2006. The next month, Bangalore Police, during a press conference, claimed to have arrested a foreign militant. Remaining in custody for one month, Bilal was charge-sheeted, produced before court and shifted to the Central Jail, Bangalore, where he is presently undergoing illegal detention.
Talking to media men, in Srinagar, Bilal's Father said, "my son, had been running a handicrafts shop at Bangalore from past few years. He was innocent and was not remotely involved in militancy. He had been doing business in Bangalore from past few years". He said that after pressure from right wing Hindu group, thirty Kashmiri shopkeepers of the area had formed a union and appointed Bilal as its chairman. He said that his son was arrested for raising voice against the harassment being meted to Kashmiris.
