Publication time: 1 May 2007, 12:33

In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops, in their continued acts of state-terrorism during the outgoing month of April, martyred 57 Kashmiris, including 4 in custody and 2 women.

According to the data, compiled by the research section of Kashmir Media Service, 193 persons were tortured and critically injured in custody while 91 arrested illegally during crackdown operations and house raids.

Four women were molested and disgraced by the Indian troops, ten persons disappeared in custody go missing, 18 structures, including residential houses and shops, were destroyed or damaged with heavy mortar shelling, 26 children orphaned and 13 women were widowed.

Meanwhile, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has condemned in strong terms Indian troops' continued acts of state terrorism on the civilians at Budgam and Kupwara districts.

APHC spokesman, in a statement in Srinagar, said that troops in their crackdown operations at these places had subjected the civilians to the use of brute force, irrespective of their age and gender. "A number of youth were ruthlessly beaten and subjected to terror," the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) denounced the illegal arrest of Kashmiri liberation leaders, Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Massarrat Alam Butt, Firdous Ahmad Shah and Mohammad Shafi Lone under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA). Describing it an act of Indian frustration, JKLF demanded their early release and removal of the black PSA against them.
