Head of the committee of information and press of unrecognized republic of South Ossetia, Irina Gagloyeva, reported that chief of the village police died as a result of a sabotage act in South Ossetia.
"At about 6 in the morning chief of District Police, police major Nodar Bibilov, died in a blast in the backyard of his house in a faraway town of Dmenis," Gagloyeva said.
"We have no doubt that this is the result of activities of Georgian special services and sabotage groups. Attempts on Bibilov's life already took place last year," Gagloyeva mentioned.
Meanwhile assassination attempt against the head of legitimate (Georgian) administration of South Ossetia, Dmitry Sanakoyev, took place in the morning of July 3. News-Georgia reported about it referring to the press center of the interim administration of South Ossetia operating in the Georgian village of Kurta.
A Nissan Armada jeep, which Dmitry Sanakoyev was driving from Kurta to Black Sea resort of Batumi to participate in an international conference, was blown up on a mine Thursday morning.
According to the earlier reports, the landmine was remotely controlled. The incident occurred on the bypass route not far from the checkpoint of [Russian] peacekeeping forces, as press center reported.
After the blast Dmitry Sanakoyev's motorcade was attacked with machineguns from the direction of the villages of Kohati and Sarabuki. The bodyguards fired back and the shooting continued for several minutes.
The press center's report, which was forwarded to News-Georgia, says that Dmitry Sanakoyev was not hurt in the incident. Three security officers were seriously wounded and taken to the military hospital in Gori.
Sanakoyev is the head of the alternative government of South Ossetia, set up in Georgian capital Tbilisi. He is not recognized as the head of the government in that unrecognized republic.
