«Attractive Dates» for Israel to strike Iran?

Publication time: 12 November 2008, 08:51

Israel might strike Iran between November 5 and January 19, 2009. This Israel did on December 8, 1988 when it targeted a cave-based headquarters 20 km. south of Beirut, serving the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, headed by Ahmed Jibril, writes Yaakov Lappin. His article is published in Jerusalem Post on November 6, 09. . Title of the article is "Might Israel strike at Iran before Obama takes over?

Mr. Lappin quotes historian Benny Morris about the likely attack. "Speaking to The Jerusalem Post this week, Morris said he continued to believe that time period [November 5 and January 19] was a "reasonable" one for Israeli action. There is certainly a friendly president in the White House until January 20."

Mr. Lappin also refers Mr. Morris article of June, 2008. "In June, Morris wrote an op-ed for The New York Times in which he theorized that Israel would likely strike Iran between November 5 and January 19, the day before Obama is sworn in."

The operation [Blue and Brown of December 8, 1988] took place one month after US President George H. Bush was voted into office, and a month before he was sworn in, replacing the popular Ronald Reagan, a leader widely viewed as a staunch ally of Israel,  writes Mr. Lappin.

Historian Benny Morris is not alone who is predicting that Israel might give President elect Obama "denuclearize Iran" as a gift.  Defense minister Ehud Barak is also  "not taking any option off the table" and "doesn't recommend that others take any option off the table. He also warns that he means what he says.

If Defense minister Ehud Barak is not taking any option of the table, Knesset speaker Dalia Itzik is urging  a group of hundreds of European parliamentarians and beyond to act against the threat posed by a nuclear Iran, saying that Europe had a historic responsibility to the security of the Jewish People.

And Europe is toeing the Israel's agenda. "Any threat to a democracy is a threat to all democracies," said Gunnar Hokmark, a member of the European Parliament from Sweden and chairman of European Friends of Israel, which organized the 36-hour event. "It is a common cause to all of us to defend democracies," he said.

This 36-hour event was attended by 400 pro-Israel legislators from across Europe and beyond. They came from 42 nations.

This uni-polar Juggle, another development demonstrates where India stands.  "Amid the rubble of the Middle EastUnited States and Israel policy of the George W Bush-Ehud Olmert duo, there has been a true success story. The have largely succeeded in snatching  India from the "other" side of the Middle Eastern geopolitical divide. This became evident more than once in the past week, writes B.M. Bhadrakumar in Asia Times. Title of the article is "India seeks 'velvet divorce' from Iran"

Fact is that Anti-Muslim India cannot be a friend of any Muslim country. There was no marriage between India and Iran. It used Iran when Taliban were in power in Afghanistan.

And who is this congressman who is urging the "civilized world" to destroy Iran. He is Congressman Gary Ackerman of New York.

"Mr. Speaker, in considering this bill, this package of sanctions and divestment authority for states and localities, we should keep foremost in our minds that we are in a race. I'm not referring to our upcoming elections, but the race between the civilized world, and the nuclear ambitions of Iran.

"One of us will win and one of us will lose. If the world wins, Iran will not become a nuclear weapons-state; there will not be a nuclear arms race in the Middle East; and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty will not collapse.

"If Iran wins, the chief sponsor of terrorism in the Middle East, the patron of Hamas and Hezbollah, a hegemonic nation led by fanatical religious zealots, will be able to threaten the global economy and the security of the United States and our allies from behind a nuclear shield.

"And we are just about to lose this race. Iran is not only ahead, it is sprinting to the finish. Its proliferation potential is now a simple math problem: Iran is now producing about 2.5 kilograms of low-enriched uranium (LEU) per day and has produced an estimated 200-250 kilograms of LEU, just since May."( Remarks of Rep. Gary L. Ackerman on H.R. 7112: Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability and Divestment Act of 2008)

So clock is ticking. Die is cast. All Dots are connected. It is not a question of "if" but "when. "  Or it is saber rattling? Time will tell.

But one thing is sure, America's bloody-thirsty leadership will continue to add new bloody chapter; "Continued wars of aggression. That's right boys and girls of the deluded Europe. If you think Obama is going to start fewer wars than McCain would have, you are sorely mistaken. In its short 230 year history, the United States has known fewer than 20 years without war, less than 10% of its existence. Besides the dozens of Indian tribes it has warred with and destroyed, America has fought:

"To this long list we may add bombing and or short attacks on Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Sudan, Libya, Lebanon and I am sure there are at least a few that I have missed and my readers will correct me on.

"In short, all presidents love a good war, it creates their legacy. Be it George Washington who while busy fighting to break with England still found time to send an army to exterminate 40 Iriqua villages (never mind half of them were US allies, but their land was so valuable) (The American elections are on, but it does not matter who is the winner, Pravda, 5.11.08)
