Zakayev and Kadyrov's 'speaker' Abdurakhmanov held 'intensive negotiations'

Publication time: 2 July 2009, 13:30

As previously reported by Kavkaz Center, with reference to AFP, the former Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of CRI Akhmed Zakayev, living in London, met with emissary of the ringleader of Chechen apostates Kadyrov, the so-called "speaker of the parliament of Chechen Republic", Dukhvakha Abdurakhmanov.

After that, according to Western media, Kadyrov's "speaker" has suddenly stated that "he did not met with Zakayev".

Meanwhile, Ivar Amundsen, a member of Zakayev's "telephone government" and a director of the so-called "Chechnya Peace Forum" in Norway, has distributed information about negotiations Zakayev and Abdurakhmanov. Amundsen said that he personally was a mediator at that meeting.

An assistant of Zakayev, Osman Ferzaouli, has also took part in the talks

We would like to remind that previously the ringleader of apostates Kadyrov gave Zakayev 1 month to think. After that Kadyrov threatened to no longer apply to Russia for Zakayev's fate.

BBC radio has also distributed the information on negotiations of Kadyrov's emissary with Zakayev. According to the British radio negotiations have been held in Oslo (Norway).

Amundsen, who confirmed the fact of a meeting, refused to say the exact location of the talks.

"The talks have taken place this week. They will resume on July 2 -  said Amundsen, who attended the meeting as a mediator. -  The long-term prospects of stability in Chechnya has been discussed. The tone of the meetings has been very positive, very constructive.

In an interview with AFP, he emphasized that "this meeting is especially significant because Kadyrov approved it, which means Moscow has approved it".

BBC reminds that a former actor of drama, Akhmed Zakayev has been living in Britain since 2002.

The radio station has also points out that Ramzan Kadyrov had twice offered Zakayev to return home and occupy himself with culture.

Anatoly Safonov, special envoy of the President of Russia, at that time stated that "the way to Russia for Zakayev is not closed".

Zakayev in his turn said that he could not accept the Kadyrov's, since only Moscow can give guarantee his security.

He has also said in an interview with the BBC, that "he is not interested in his personal fate but a political settlement in Chechnya".

Zakayev in his interview to Russian service of the BBC in February of this year also denied the FSB's accusations claiming that he was allegedly involved in the "organization of the armed underground" from abroad.

In 2007, Zakayev proclaimed himself a "Prime Minister of CRI". His self-appointment as "premiere" Zakayev substantiated by saying that he has been allegedly chosen by deputies of parliament CRI.

However, Zakayev's statement was refuted by the head of the Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs of CRI Akhyad Idigovym, who lives in France.

In addition, according to Zakaev, his "election" was conducted by "a method of telephone voting". Later on it turned out that "the telephone voting" has been attended by 5 former members of Parliament of CRI.
