Sabotage – main version of FSB in regard to explosion at hydroelectric power plant

Publication time: 20 August 2009, 12:21
According to “Life” website, supervised by Russian secret services, sabotage – is the main version for the incident.

Moreover, according to unofficial reports, the number of dead could be between 300 and 400 people, however, Russian authorities reject these reports.

Meanwhile, Siberian regional emergencies ministry's head of operations suffered a heart attack on Wednesday and has been flown to Moscow, a spokesman for the Federal Medical-Biological Agency said.

Maj. Gen. Daniyar Safiullin, who has been leading the search and rescue operations following Monday's explosion at the hydroelectric power plant in southern Siberia, was administered resuscitation at the site and was rushed to a hospital in Sayanogorsk.

Safiullin is in critical condition and is being flown to Moscow, the spokesman said.

"The reason for [the heart attack] was excessive fatigue because he hadn't slept for a very long time," he added.

The explosion at the Sayano-Shushenskaya plant on the Yenisei River flooded the turbine hall early on Monday. Russia's largest station, built in 1978, was shut down, briefly leaving nearby towns and major factories without power.

According to the latest official reports, at least 14 people died in the incident and more than 60 are still unaccounted for.
