Persecution of Muslims in Europe intensifies. Spain closes mosque, arrests Imam

Publication time: 22 July 2010, 12:24

Spanish authorities closed a mosque on the island of Ibiza and arrested its imam after charging him with beating several Muslim students in a mosque school, the Alarabiya reported.

Sant Antoni local police started conducting investigations about the imam after receiving several complaints from parents who reported that their children were allegedly "being beaten with a stick on their heads, arms, and backs while taking their Arab culture lessons in the mosque's school".

Muslims on the island expressed their disappointment about the closure of the mosque where they enlisted their children so they could learn the Quran and the Arab history and culture.

Residents of the city refute false accusations towards the Imam. Manuel Leon, 80, said the mosque was never a source of trouble:

"Muslims who went there to pray never bothered anyone," he told the press.

All the Spanish interviewees, including officials, agreed that the mosque was never a nuisance, which raised more concerns about the reason of its closure.

The authorities have just came up with another excuse to prevent the Muslims. It is worth noting that Islam in Spain spreads very rapidly, that is why Islamophobs are trying every possible way to prevent that.

It is to be mentioned that the Muslim channel Cordoba, created by Sheikh Saleh al-Fauzanom for call to Islam, is constantly faced with numerous obstacles from the authorities and has not yet been able to start broadcasting.
