Netherlands tries to ban the Koran and impose tax for wearing headscarf

Publication time: 28 July 2010, 23:27

The Christian Democratic Party (CDP) of the Netherlands agreed to negotiate with the so-called Freedom Party, which is known for its most radical anti-Islamic views. Earlier, the CDA rejected the very possibility of such negotiations, but now has changed its mind, the Russian Blagovest agency reported.

The CDA leader Maxime Verhagen said these negotiations for now would be held to get to know each others's views. However, if it comes to forming the interparty coalition, then, according to Verhagen, the Christian Democratic Party would bring forward a series of claims to the Freedom Party.

As Verhagen explained, it will be necessary to clarify the disputed issues relating the "relations between our two parties, the constitutional principle of our state and basic human rights".

Verhagen said that the CDA will not work in government, in which these rights are challenged.

It is to be recalled that the Freedom Party gained popularity thanks to its leader Geert Wilders, who equated Islam with fascism and called for a ban of the Koran in the Netherlands.

The Dutchnews in its turn specified that Islamophob Geert Wilders, and also Dutch Liberals and Christian Democrats, held their first unofficial talks on Monday.

The CDA leader Maxime Verhagen agreed to join the preliminary talks about forming a right-wing (anti-Islamic) coalition. But he has made it clear that th PVV leader Geert Wilders will have to give up his plans to introduce a tax for Muslim headscarves, ethnic registration and a ban of the Koran for any prospect of a formal alliance.

However, according to local commentators, it is expected that politicians from the Christian parties would nevertheless agree to these terms of the Islamophob in order to create a government coalition.

It is to be recalled that Wilders has created a so-called "International anti-Islamic alliance", which has as one of its main objectives to ban Muslims to immigrate to Western countries.

Wilders acts under the slogan "Stop Islam, Defend Freedom!". The Islamophob is insisting that this slogan is relevant not only for the Netherlands, but also for the entire Western world.

At last month's election in the Netherlands, Wilders' party was the third in the list of winners and got 24 seats in the parliament.
