Mitt Romney, a possible rival of Barack Obama in the upcoming US presidential elections, called Putin a "tyrant" and "a threat to global peace".
A video from a fragment of the interview, which was taken directly in the trailer of Romney during the primaries in New Hampshire in early January, has been published on the website of Daily Telegraph.
Romney said that the tyrants of the world "take advantage of the weakness of Obama's policy to use it in their interests". In a single series of "tyrants", he referred to Putin, Fidel Castro and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Separately, Romney called Putin "the real threat to stability and peace in the world", stressing that in anticipation of his probable return to Russia's presidency, he resumed his most violent rhetoric.
It is to be recalled that Romney speaks roughly about Putin and his regime not for the first time, calling the Russian leader a KGB threat for peace.
As reported by Reuters, a month ago, speaking in Littleton, New Hampshire, Romney said that Putin had "returned to some of the more heated rhetoric of the past" and added, "I think he endangers stability and peace on the globe".
It is to be recalled that former US president George W. Bush supported the candidacy of Mitt Romney for the highest office in America.
"I think Romney is the best choice", Bush said. The ex-president said he had known Romney for many years and also knew his father, George Romney, a former Republican governor of Michigan.
George W. Bush said that Mitt Romney is a "mature and reasonable - not a bomb-thrower".
American experts and political analysts believe that the Republican elite could unite behind Mitt Romney and secure his nomination for the presidency without much fuss.
US presidential elections will be held on 6 November 2012. The current president Obama also intends to participate in the event.
