Yemen. Mujahideen of al-Qaeda captured provincial capital of Shabwa

Publication time: 9 April 2012, 23:35

The Yemen Post writes referring to reports by international media that the Mujahideen of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) have liberated the town of Ataq (see the map), the provincial capital of Shabwa.

According to the sources, the Mujahideen entered the town simultaneously from three sides and then took it under their control. It is reported that there is civilian airport in Ataq.

A few hours after the publication of this news, a local senior member of the ruling regime, a certain Abdu Rabu Hashla, said that the capital of Shabwa was supposedly still under the control of the puppet forces.

Commenting on the information about the flight of the puppets from Ataq, Hashla said that "we, the army and security forces... are in the same boat and that we would never let al-Qaeda take over our hometown of Ataq".

It is to be recalled that the residents of Shabwa recently said that the Mujahideen of al-Qaeda were present throughout the whole province and that the puppets were unable to push them back.

"They are hardened fighters, those al-Qaeda people....With the army being so divided right now, I don't think we have a chance", said Hussein Badr, a tribesman from Shabwa.

It is to be also noted that the Yemeni regime has repeatedly been caught lying.

Earlier, in September 2011, the puppets claimed that they had captured the capital of the province of Abyan, Zinjibar, but later it turned out that the puppets did not even entered the city. Since then, the puppets periodically report on huge Mujahideen losses and seizures of their positions.

Local tribes, however, say that the puppets are engaged in disinformation campaign to bolster the fighting spirit in the puppets, while in fact, the Saleh's army continues to retreat under fierce attacks of the Mujahideen of al-Qaeda.

In an interview to The Yemen Post, Hashla also said that the AQAP "took advantage of the situation and laid siege on the engineering team tasked with repairing a blown pipeline".

Meanwhile, as reported by Ansar Forum, the Command of AQAP issued a new statement refuting the claims by the puppet "interior ministry" about the death of dozens of Mujahideen during the past two days.

Al Qaeda has expressed surprise of information about the beginning of an assault of the puppet army in Abyan - according to the Mujahideen, the puppets still do not dare to enter it.

AQAP strongly rejected the allegations about the death of 100 Mujahideen while the rumor continues to circulate in the media. The AQAP military leadership emphasized that the fighters had been dispersed in such a way that there are no such large number of fighters in one single place.

"The recruits of the Yemeni interior ministry suffer a case of stupidity and intractable lack of understanding which made them incapable to acknowledge that it is the Mujahideen who control Ayan and they carry out attacks in Sana'a whenever they want as clearly demonstrated in recent operations in Ghazwas called "Cutting of the Tails" and " Al-Karamah", emphasized al-Qaeda.

In another statement, the AQAP Command reported that Yemeni war planes had tried to make a raid on the town of Waqar (formerly Jaar) in the province of Abyan on Sunday, but were faced with air defense systems of the Mujahideen of AQAP - the puppets threw their bombs far away from targets and were forced to withdraw.

The Command noted that for the first time in a long period, al-Qaeda managed to effectively protect the residents of Waqar against the air raids of the puppets using its air defense systems.

Meanwhile, at about 12:20 pm on Saturday, the Mujahideen blew up an armored vehicle of the puppet army at a checkpoint near al-Raq in the province of Marib, which resulted in killing and wounding several puppets.

Another attack by the Mujahideen has been conducted in the area of Gil Ba Wazir in the province of Hadramawt, when the building of the "General Security" came under a fiece attack.

"The Mujahideen of Ansar Al-Sharia have raided the police station of Gil Ba'Wazir in the province of Hadramawt at 2:00 am Saturday", said the statement of AQAP. As a result of the combat operations, the puppets suffered huge losses.

And the statement of AQAP added that the attack was conducted with RPGs and light automatic weapons.

"The raid began with firing an RPG on the main gate, then there was intensive shooting from several directions for 15 minutes before the Mujahideen withdrew unharmed with the grace of Allah", said the Mujahideen.

At the same time, the AQAP Command confirmed that two Mujahideen who had been preparing for martyrdom attacks on the HQ of intelligence in Aden, martyred, Insha'Allah - (one of them is on photo) - as a result of malfunctioning of the timer in the explosives.
