The US ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, has been killed for insulting Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in US consulate in the eastern Libya.
A group of Muslims attacked and set fire to the building in a protest against an American film offensive to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), after similar protests in Egypt's capital.
The ambassador was paying a short visit to the city when the consulate came under attack on Tuesday night.
He was killed by Muslims along with his two American body guards and a consulate employee who were accompanying him.
