Anti-American actions extend in Muslim world

Publication time: 14 September 2012, 16:53

The anti-American sentiment in the Muslim world is becoming more wide-ranging, says the Western press.

On September 14, thousands of Muslims took to the streets for anti-American demonstrations in Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, Sudan and other countries. People are outraged by another infamous film which insulted the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

In Cairo, protesters stoned the US Embassy. Egyptian troops fired tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. It is reported that the new Egyptian authorities urgently started to build concrete barriers to protect the US Embassy.

Meanwhile, the US ambassador to Egypt has left Cairo. The US Embassy was completely evacuated on Friday amid massive anti-American demonstrations taking place in Egypt for the fourth day.

Arab sources reported that Egyptian president Mursi condemned anti-Islamic film and said he supported the protests. At the same time he announced that he condemned "acts of violence".

Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan has also condemned the film, who, however, stressed that his country "would not accept violence".

In Bangladesh and Malaysia, thousands of demonstrators gathered around the US embassy and attempted to break inside.

In Sudan, the demonstrators attacked German embassy and raised the Islamic flag over the embassy building, throwing off the German national flag.

Mufti of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, Bashiruddin Ahmad, urged all US citizens to immediately leave the state, reported on Friday website of Indian television channel Zeenews.

"US citizens visiting Kashmir should leave immediately as the sentiments of the Muslims have been hurt by these pictures ... I have told American tourists to leave this place for their own safety, people are really agitated", said Ahmad, noting that the government is not able to control the behavior of every citizen.

Ahmad has sharply condemned the anti-Islamic content of the film and called on Muslims around the world to protest.

"Everyone accepts the greatness of the Prophet (pbuh) and any attempt to malign his image will not be tolerated", said mufti, speaking in the administrative center of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, where Muslims make up about 97% of the population.

Earlier on Thursday, in Sringar, Muslims held a demonstration against the film.

According to Indian media, the government of Jammu and Kashmir has asked the central government to block users access to an abominable movie. According to the website PC World, access to the movie trailer on YouTube in India is already blocked.

About 300 million Muslims are living in India.

This anti-Islamic provocation caused numerous attacks on the US embassies in Arab countries, amongst them the one in the Libyan city of Benghazi on the 11th of September, were US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others were killed.

On Thursday, mass protests took place at the walls of diplomatic missions of the United States in more than a dozen countries in the Middle East and Africa. Most large-scale riots took place in Cairo and Sana'a, where at least four people have been killed, hundreds injured.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, speaking on Friday, called the film "offensive to Muslims" and intentionally designed to incite hatred.

According to analysts of KC, recurrent public humiliation in the West of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is a kind of a test. Those who are behind this provocation, are actually carrying out the "assessment" of the state of the Islamic Ummah and determine - what the Muslims could do and what their potential today is.
