KC SYRIA'S REPORT. Units named after Caucasus leaders fight in Syria

Publication time: 16 October 2012, 03:47

By KC correspondents in Syria

SYRIA'S LIBERATED AREAS (Kavkaz Center) - KC sources report that units named after Dzhokhar Dudayev, Shamil Basayev and Emir Khattab are operating in the different regions of Syria. However, there is no even single Chechen or Caucasian is in these units. Only Syrians are fighting in them.

The fact is that Dzhokhar Dudayev, Shamil Basayev and Emir Khattab are very popular among Syrian rebels and the Mujahideen. So some groups refer to their units after their names.

This video shows Syrian fighters from Brigade named after Dudayev negotiating with soldiers of the Assad's army, offering them to surrender and lay down their arms.

The KC sources also report that about 150 Mujahideen volunteers from the Caucasus Emirate are fighting in Syria. Chechens, Dagestani and representatives of other peoples of North Caucasus are among them. They are divided into four groups, and operate in different parts of Syria.

Some of these groups are part of larger units, consisting of the Syrians. Others operate independently, in coordination with the command of the FSA, and include Mujahideen volunteers from other countries.
