RUSSIAN ESPIONAGE. FSA arrests Russian spy in Syria

Publication time: 16 October 2012, 13:35

According to Ukrainian media outlets, the Free Syrian Army counterintelligence arrested a seasoned Russian spy Ankhar Kochnevaabout 20 kilometers from the city of Homs in El Quseir on October. The 40-year-old Ukrainian citizen worked for the FSB under cover of a "journalist".

Kochneva "served" as a freelance correspondent of Russian KGB portal Utro.ru and was engaged in "escorting Russian journalists visiting Syria", whom she passed intelligence reports, and also "collaborated with Russian magazines and TV stations", where she sent her spy messages.

The Russian spy came to Syria on September 22 this year through Damascus International Airport "at an invitation of one of public institutions". The prison conditions of Russian criminal in Syria, as she said during a telephone talk from prison to Moscow, are quite satisfactory.

It is to be recalled that 17 Russian KGB men came to Syria from Moscow on October 10 with a mission to identify about 300 Chechen Mujahideen fighting on the side of the Free Syrian Army.
