Bus explosion in Volgograd fell on the 14th anniversary of shelling of market place and maternity hospital in Chechen capital (video)

Publication time: 22 October 2013, 03:43

Exactly 14 years ago, on October 21, 1999, the center of Jokhar (former Grozny) was hit by rocket attacks on Putin' orders. The largest number of victims was counted in three locations: central food market, national maternity hospital and a mosque in the settlement of Kalinin.

According to various sources, 100 and 120 people were killed there. About 400 others were wounded, many of them subsequently died.

The use of tactical ground-to-ground missiles with cluster warheads filled with "ball-bearing" bombs on the city, in which there were hundreds of thousands of people, meant that the target was in fact the civilian population.

He is an extract from a report by Radio Liberty (author Khasin Raduyev)

- "All the rockets exploded in the central part of the city, at Central Market stalls, which operate virtually around the clock - 61 people died.

In the mosque of the Kalinin settlement, 60 Muslims gathered for evening prayers. 41 of them died.

One of the rockets exploded in the courtyard of the only maternity hospital in Grozny. The victims were 13 women and 15 newborn babies.

Another seven people were killed by debris at a parking lot in front of the hospital. Many of the wounded stayed near the Central Post Office, where the parking lot was located at the time of the explosion, and there were several buses with passengers at them waiting".
